Those close to Closet of Style® know how busy the daily styling life can be. There are days I wish I could squeeze more hours out in order to get more accomplished. So when publisher Bridgette Wright, of Charlotte STYLE magazine, approached me to style their feature editorial, I was nervous and elated at the same time. The anxiety always stems from timing — can I give 150% with the time that I have? Once I accepted the opportunity, things seemed to fall right into place.
Obviously, it takes the right team of experts. And my team knocked it out of the park! The 'cool, calm, collected and über talented' photographer Michael Church, hair stylist beyond extraordinaire Larry Webb, 'I can color your world' make-up artist Courtney Zepeda-Hawks and mission possible model Katrina Chief brought my vision to life — with ease.
I'm not saying it didn't take a lot of forethought, or that there weren't any close-to-midnight calls the night before, or that there wasn't any worry over whether the clothes would fit our adorable teeny tiny model. Panic is always there. However, it's in those moments when you realize, that no matter what, everything will work out.
Setting the foundation as color, I wanted to show fantasy through reality. Meaning, every piece is believable on its own, yet becomes more complex when layered — some simple, some over-the-top. Throw on vibrant make-up and a spunky wig and the vision comes to life. Emotion plays the biggest role in any photo shoot, and Katrina absolutely nailed the quirky qualities I wanted to see.
A huge thank you to my fabulously stylish friends that made this shoot possible: Neiman Marcus SouthPark, KK Bloom, Frock Shop, Bead Lush and my own closet.
