Season's Must Haves

Cropped jackets are always in style. Thank goodness for that! However, shorter length sweaters come and go. This fall, I am happy to say they are back. So reach back into that closet of yours and pull one out.

Being the layering type, I find cropped sweaters to be quite versatile. Besides, they are so much fun to wear. Of course, cut and style matter. When worn correctly, they can add just the right visual balance.

I love this cropped sweater from KK Bloom. I layered it over a simple black dress for a fall fashion photo shoot in July with photographer Robert Christopher (more fabulous pictures to come from Robert). This cropped topper can just as easily be worn over a tank or long-sleeve tee and paired with a skirt or jeans. Right now, I am digging the idea of my floor length black skirt with this cropped sweater. Options are good.

This fall, outwear has attitude. From the bubble hem Burberry Prorsum trench to colorful, belted numbers and longer length leather coats.

I gravitate toward outerwear to begin with, so this season has me drooling. While it's easy to get caught up in trends, remember the overarching importance of serving your shape, and more importantly, your personal style. Details are fabulous, especially when well constructed. But if it's too of-the-moment, pass.

helmutlangskirtA long skirt has appeared on my must have list for years. Probably due to the fact that it's such a versatile article of clothing. The continual updates don't hurt, either. That's why I'm kicking off my fall must haves with this sensational skirt.

While there are many great options for fall, I am loving Helmut Lang's floor length draped jersey skirt. The fabric makes it an almost year round option. The draping flatters most shapes. And the slit makes it a bit easier to walk in. Just add tights in the winter and you are set!

You will see A-line, straight and angled cuts this fall in black, charcoal, navy and brown (and a few colors in between). Any neutral gives you the opportunity to put together numerous stylish looks. Whether you choose monochromatic or high contrast, you can't go wrong.

As for shoes — oh so many choices! OTK boots, riding boots, combat boots, booties, platform sandals, pumps, peep-toes, you name it. Every week something different.

So go create some new and exciting looks with your new floor length skirt!

I've been thinking about fall all day. Must have been the cooler temps mixed with the constant breeze. What a welcome pleasure!

I realize summer is just hitting its stride. And vacation season has arrived. Yet, I keep dreaming of fall. Just as cornflower blue will make an impact next season, red will have a moment, as well — bringing much excitement.

Red is powerful. It symbolizes life and vitality. Besides, it makes such a statement. Just thinking about the possibilities makes me want fall to hurry up and get here!

Looks a lot like fall of '09, doesn't it? All those neon brights.

Well, this season you can go as bright as you like, even if it falls outside of the spring/summer color palette. The more you mix it up, the better. Keep people curious, that's what I say. In fact, just last week, I put a work outfit together for a client that included a bright yellow shrug over a cranberry satin top. It was crazy fun!

The point is, getting dressed in the morning should be exhilarating. If it's not, then it's time to call me.
