tiredofcelebratingThere's been a lot of celebrating going on. Thanksgiving through the New Year is always non-stop madness. Good craziness, of course! But exhausting, nonetheless.

Don't get me wrong. It's a magical time of year that I look forward to every year. However, learning how to manage the chaos, while you are smack dab in the middle of it, is key. And doing it in style takes practice.

Sometimes, a little post-holiday vacation is just what the doctor ordered. So, I am taking the rest of the week off to relax, enjoy time with my sisters and focus on one thing I can do this year to make a difference. Just one.

As I look back at 2010, I am proud to report that I reached my goal ... the one official goal I set. Of course, I procrastinated until August, but I more than made up for it.

Instead of making a list of all the things you want to accomplish this year, why not focus on just one. You will feel lighter and happier as you take 2011 by the horns ... and you will be super proud of yourself for keeping focused.
While I love this image, I wouldn't wear fur shorts. Okay, well maybe around the house with my faux mongolian lamb boot covers.

My clients often ask how I translate my style tear sheets into the real world. For me, it's simple. Inspiration is all around me. And I surround myself in that inspiration. Take these fur shorts (that we may never wear) and instead, bring them into your home — as in a little piece of 'over-the-top' décor.

I'm just going to put this out there ... it's cold enough to snow. So, let it.

After a successful day of shopping, my clients are as ready for snow as I am. Our lists included more than just holiday event wear, after all. They also included outerwear. So, let it snow!
Today is the first day of December. And for some reason, this year has taken me the longest to come around. It doesn't feel like the holidays.

It's odd to me that I'm stuck somewhere in September. I mean ... my tree is up, I've started my shopping, yet ... nothing. It reminds me of the song from A Chorus Line, "I Felt Nothing." Though, I am fairly certain that feeling will come along any day now, much like Will Stronghold's powers finally developed overnight in Sky High.

So, out of desperation comes this amazingly emotional image. I just had to whip this out in hopes to conjure up some holiday spirit. Of course that feeling has to involve snow, white horses and an extraordinarily dramatic long winter coat. Now we're getting somewhere!

catchingfirefliesDo you dare to dream?

Like a child. Without hesitation. Without boundaries. Without expectation.

I hope you do. And I hope those dreams pave the way to expressing your personal style.

Do you remember the days, called outside by your parents, bearing witness to the wonder of fireflies? Magical, wasn't it? A slice of fairytale heaven ... to be the keeper of the light.

So, too, was the fearlessness of putting together, what our parents thought to be, ridiculous little outfits. That purple tutu and stain-ridden unicorn tee paired with holey sneakers or ruby slippers (depending on the mood).

Admit it. You loved seeing their astonished faces. Well, you can feel that same sense of wonderment now by taking a little risk from time to time. So what if others gawk at you. You have to experiment in order to land in your new comfort zone of individual style.

Release your playful inner child. It's time to have fun!
