YSLtheshockShocking indeed!

There aren't many mascaras that impress me. However, this one lived up to its name.

Mascara and I go way back. In fact, ten years ago I started The Mascara Report due to overwhelming disappointment in the world of mascara. And while I wish I had the time to continue the report to help guide lash enthusiasts in the right direction when selecting a mascara, this will have to serve as my stamp of approval.

Mascara should serve your purpose. And yours may be different than mine. I have high expectations and I realize it. However, there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to find the perfect mascara match. My absolute musts — volume, length and positively no clumping, smudging, smearing or flaking.

How did The Shock fare?

There is no doubt this is the most volumizing mascara by Yves Saint Laurent. The hourglass shaped brush allows the formula to grab hold of lashes. Because of that, it lengthens automatically. What was most shocking for me was the ability to get the look that I wanted without compromising my need for 'work all day' mascara. Literally in one coat it did everything I wished for with complete ease. It's even sweat proof! Yet, at the end of the day, it comes off incredibly easy (and I have no idea how YSL does it). The only drawback is the life of The Shock. A month to a month and a half can be expected. In my book, well worth it.

curlingmascaraMascara is just one of those products I demand a lot from.

Always have.

It mustn't smudge, smear, flake or clump. And it absolutely must bring volume and definition to my lashes. When I leave my house every morning shortly after 6am, I expect my mascara to hang with me all through the day. I rarely get a chance to look into a mirror, so it better not let me down. By the time I wash my face (10pm), I want to be proud of what my mascara has accomplished. Don't you?

Typically I find a new mascara and stay married to it for quite some time. So I have to admit it's difficult making a switch. However, this switch was a surprisingly beautiful one.

Trish McEvoy's Lash Curling Mascara rocks! A big Kevyn Aucoin fan, this is better than the comparative formulas. It's a tubing mascara, so it forms water-resistant tubes around your lashes. Far better than waterproof mascara, the 24-hour formula stays just-applied looking all day. The innovative curling brush lifts and curves each lash. And clean up? A snap. Just add warm water and the tubes slide off.

So I say almost perfect. Simply because it doesn't last the typical 3 months. However, worth it? Yes.

I can't believe it. I have found a match to my favorite mascara!

Bobbi Brown has definitely created something special with her Smokey Eye mascara. This formula promises thicker, fuller and bolder lashes — and definitely delivers. It stays put all day without smudging, smearing or flaking.

Smokey Eye mascara builds volume, lash by lash, by way of the brilliant brush which combs through eyelashes from roots to tips. The result is stretched-out lashes in an instant. Eyes that draw attention!

Thank you, Bobbi. This mascara, I love.

supremechantecailleI am picky about mascara. I expect a lot. And why shouldn't I?

My favorite mascara, of two years now, is Chantecaille Faux Cils Longest Lash Mascara. I alternate between this lengthening formula and the regular Faux Cils. It's simply the best for volume and length, and it does not smudge, smear or flake. My hero!

But now, there's a new formula. I am so tempted to cheat on my steady. Supreme Cils Mascara is a water/tears/humidity resistant formula infused with rosewater that can be gently removed with warm water — much like the tubing effect of Kevyn Aucoin Volume Mascara and Blinc Mascara. The bristles of this new mascara were designed to lift and separate each individual lash for eye-catching fringe without any clumps.

So guess where I'll be tomorrow? Picking up a tube of Supreme Cils!
