With summer more than halfway over, there's no better time to assess the damage done to our hair.

Sun, sand and chlorine take a toll on our locks. However, with a few simple hair care tips, we can bring life and vitality back to dry, brittle hair.

Post-swim, use a shampoo with ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid, like Frederic Fekkai Marine Clean Detox Shampoo ($23). “It grabs hold of chlorine and pulls it from hair,” says Mario Russo, a salon owner in Boston and Vermont. Swimmers need to pamper their hair every day to keep it clean, healthy and manageable.

Louise O’Connor, owner of OC61 Salon and Spa in New York City, suggests this DIY mask: blend 1/2 avocado with 2 tablespoons olive oil; apply the mixture to your hair and rinse after 20 minutes.

Deep-condition weekly, using a treatment loaded with moisturizing shea butter, like Sleek.look Miracle Reconstructor ($16).

During the hot summer months, it's easy to throw in the towel when it comes to your hair. Let's be honest, pulling hair up to get it off of your neck drops the temperature at least 5 degrees!

However, there are many easy styles to embrace that don't take a ton of creativity or expert ability. As in loose summer waves. And just changing from a side part to a middle part makes it look fresh and new! I am guilty of forever hangin' in my side part comfort zone. Well, not today. Call me crazy, but I'm rockin' a middle part.

Guess what? This is your opportunity to jump out of your everyday 'do' and dive into something that makes you feel bright-eyed and bushy tailed. Perhaps it's the middle part, too!

phytodefrisantBrace yourself. And your hair. It's about to get ugly.

Come Friday, temps will reach over 100 degrees. My hair is already shrieking. Puffy frizzy hair, ugh. While I tend to let my hair air dry during the summer months, a fabulous blow out would sure be nice every now and then.

Enter: my new best friend, Phytodéfrisant.

The entire Phyto line is outstanding. And this botanical hair relaxing balm is the bomb! The natural plant-based formula is rich in ferula, horseradish and sage to soften and protect unruly hair. Simply rub a nickel-size amount of balm into your hands and run through sections of your hair. You can repeat the process a second time for an extra smooth and sleek look. Since this award winning balm is heat-activated, blow drying is an essential element.

The anti-frizz effect lasts until your next washing. And it leaves hair soft and silky, without stripping away volume.

Armed and ready for Friday, Saturday and late August!
Sometimes your week gets away from you. That crazed feeling from a day where you haven't had the opportunity to sit down, but for 15 minutes, just doesn't leave you. A day so insanely scheduled that there's no time to eat lunch, let alone breakfast.

That's when you say, "You know what, it's okay that I didn't cross everything off my list." Sure, that means no 'me' time for a few more weeks. But you deal (with a glass of wine, of course). True translation — my hair will have to wait, yet another month. Embrace au naturel. And I will.

rosebrynehairOh, Rose. I love you. And your hair.

While bangs are still big for summer, I'm attempting to grow mine out. I am in the mood for a change.

I saw a similar style to this recently, though no bangs and more layers. I wish I would have taken a picture. It would have landed right in Edward Woody's chair.

Who knows what I will decide between now and my next hair cut. I'll be sure to keep you posted!
